Day 25
The carpenters left this afternoon and I'm guessing they aren't coming back since they took the trailer with them. We now have a roof! Far from being weather tight, you can still get a good idea of what the finished product is going to look like. It is a little disturbing how dark everything in the house is now. While disturbing, the overhang is going to be awesome for casting a shadow over the windows. Our current kitchen is VERY steamy since there is no shade. We had once tossed around the idea of doing Solar Tubes somewhere in the new space but then decided to put it off and wait to see where the dark spots were going to be. Well, I think we'll be saving like misers to eventually put in the Tubes. Thanks for the votes on the sink...however what about WATER SPOTS? I hate, Hate , HATE cleaning the scuff marks off of my white cast iron sink, why would I want to clean water spots, daily, off of my new black sink? See, these are the things I need to know before I return the stainless steel sink we already bought.

I've just spent the last hour reading about stainless steal sinks...tonight the scale is tipping towards the stainless steel option. Unfortunately not the one we bought, but a stainless steal sink. I think I need to find a new faucet - more contemporary. Comments?
Uhhh, yeah. Black cast iron sinks water spot, big time - I'd assume mainly due to the color. I've heard using a product like gel gloss helps prevent against this a bit. But, on the other hand, I am pretty sure I could scrape a cast iron skillet across our sink and not leave a mark.
We had a stainless sink in our old kitchen (but ours felt really cheap) and hated it, hence the switch.
Stainless marks up a whole lot too, but if you are planning to go solid surface for the counters a few years down the road then why not just get a decent stainless steel one?
Alright, I think I need my parents to chime in...having grown up with a stainless steel sink I don't ever recall marks. The higher quality sink, the fewer marks. We are looking at an 18 gauge sink with a polished finish. Patrick, do you really remember marks?
I do. I'd get everything cleaned up and polished and someone would feel the need to get a glass of water, and then dump most of it down the drain, splashing of course. But what are sinks for and all I needed to do was wipe the sink; it was great. We liked the sink and only changed because we wanted a change.
